Goal-Setting Workshop
Everyone has a ceiling to what they think they can
achieve.
By that I mean, they think that they are only able to get
to a certain level of play, and could never get any
further.
For example, people who say the following:-
"I'm not a county player",
"If I try really hard I might beat X but I'll never ever
beat Y", or
"I'll never be able to do a backhand clear from one end of
the court to the other".
Well, our first task in this Badminton Secrets
Goal-Setting Workshop is to remove that ceiling, smash it
to smithereens, and let the light from the sky come
flooding in!!
Effective goal setting works when you ascribe no limits to
what you want to achieve.
I'm not saying that everyone should set the goal to become
World or Olympic Champion, for reasons that will become
clear later, but what you do need to do is to set goals
that clearly challenge you - even goals that you think you
have little chance of achieving at the moment.
So grab a pen and paper, sit somewhere quiet and let's
begin!
First of all, write for five minutes, without stopping,
everything that you would like to achieve in badminton.
Remember, set no limits to this.
Really let your mind go, think of all the possibilities
there are in the game for you.
Maybe beat a certain player?
Would you like to play for a certain team?
Join a certain club?
Go and watch a National or International tournament?
PLAY in a National or International tournament??
Dream of everything, whether big or small, everything you
would love to do that would really tell you that you've
made the most of your time playing badminton.
I'll leave you to do that; when it's done, come back and
we'll go onto the next step.
